Hello Tekcapital community. A new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine reduced intake recommendations for sodium that were set in 2005 after reviewing evidence in the U.S. and Canada. The report indicates that reducing sodium intake is tied to positive health outcomes, specifically, a reduced risk of conditions such as cardiovascular disease and hypertension. Consequently, the committee recommended people 14 and older reduce sodium intake to 2,300 mg or less daily. They have also adjusted the AI (adequate intake) for youth.
Salarius ltd, a Tekcapital portfolio company, has a patented process which can help snack food companies meet the recommended guidelines for reduced sodium consumption without reducing the salty flavor that many consumers prefer. Salarius is looking to enter the market with low-sodium snack food products, and supply manufacturers with their reduced-sodium salt, later this year.
